Every New Item in Regulation M-C, Explained Clearly

M-C's twelve new items reward precise planning. Several depend on terrain, while the rest create a one-time defensive, disruptive or damage-focused moment that has to be used well.

The terrain package

Terrain Extender lengthens terrain created by the holder. Electric and Grassy Seed raise Defense by one stage in matching terrain; Psychic and Misty Seed raise Special Defense by one stage. Each seed is consumed on activation, so it belongs on a team that can reliably create the matching field.

Terrain can come from an ability or a move. That flexibility is useful, but it also means a seed is a commitment: outside its terrain, it does nothing.

Contact, disruption and switching

Rocky Helmet damages an attacker that makes contact, making it a direct answer to contact moves rather than all physical attacks. Air Balloon grants Ground immunity until the holder is hit and the balloon pops.

Red Card activates only if its holder survives the hit, then forces the attacker into a random available teammate. Eject Button also requires its holder to survive; it is consumed and lets its holder switch to a chosen available teammate. Both are single-use tools, so position them for the turn that matters.

The specialists

Binding Band increases partial-trapping chip damage. Normal Gem boosts the first successful Normal-type attack before being consumed. Leek is restricted to Farfetch'd and Sirfetch'd and raises their critical-hit rate. Each is powerful only on the right set.

Natural M-C item partners

Terrain setters and Leek's eligible users are useful starting points.

Choose an item for one named turn

Before adding an item, finish this sentence: “I need this to happen when…”. A Grassy Seed may help a partner survive the turn it establishes terrain; Red Card may break a specific setup line; Air Balloon may create a temporary safe switch. If the answer is vague, a more consistent item is probably better.

Test the interaction in the team builder, then revisit it when early M-C usage data provides a clearer picture of the threats you actually face.
