Compare final Speed, not base Speed
Base Speed is only the starting point. At Level 50, IVs, EVs, nature and temporary effects determine the number that matters. Two Pokémon with the same base Speed can have very different final stats. When they share effective Speed and use moves in the same priority bracket, move order is random.
Know the exceptions
Priority moves resolve before ordinary moves. Trick Room reverses normal Speed order for its active turns. Tailwind doubles a side's final Speed, while items and abilities can alter a single Pokémon. Effects such as Quash, After You and forced switching can matter too. A speed chart is a baseline, not a promise.
Use three practical checks
- Natural speed: can this Pokémon pressure its key targets without support?
- Boosted speed: under Tailwind or with its item active, what does it outrun?
- Trick Room speed: is it slow enough to benefit or fast enough to wait it out?
Speed-control reference points
Compare their stats, typing and options before committing to a spread.
Test the board, not just a number
If an attacker needs Tailwind, ask whether its partner survives long enough to set it. If your answer to a fast team is Trick Room, ask whether your lead functions before Trick Room goes up. Use the live table as a reference, then verify important matchups in the team builder.
